Telomere Testing by Life Length Telomeres are structures at the ends of chromosomes that function is to protect genes during cell division.
During cell division a portion of the telomere is eroded slightly (a phenomenon known as the “end-replication problem”).
When the telomeres reach a critically short length, cell division stops.
Cells then enter what is called apoptosis, and eventually die.
Short telomeres contribute to the aging process as well as chronic and age-related diseases.
